About Greenline

Fairtrade Foundation Logo

Greenline was established by Trevor Melhuish in October 1993 to promote an increased awareness of ethically sound products. The wider ethical implications of buying and selling were, and still are, of considerable personal importance, and so trading with these principles at the core was seen as a positive way of further improving the way we relate to the planet and its many inhabitants.

The success of this strategy is seen not just in the quantity of goods sold, but in the way that ethical considerations are now at the forefront of both business and government thinking. This success is down to all those who have helped in so many ways to make ethics an issue.

Soil Association Organic Standard

Three main measures are used to assess products for sale: they should be people friendly, animal friendly, and environment friendly. To this end, preferred products are organically grown, fairly traded or made from recycled materials. Other products may also be included where they are seen as a 'step in the right direction' with a view to upgrading them as better product becomes available.

On a personal level, Trevor has a keen interest in wildlife and has been chairman of the local Devon Wildlife Trust group. He is fortunate to own nearly two acres of Devon countryside which he cares for along strictly organic lines. There is an organic vegetable plot, an orchard and a large wild flower meadow which is enjoyed by a large variety of butterflies. The garden is also home to many different species of bird including the threatened Song Thrush which is thriving well without the dual dangers of cats and slug pellets. The house itself is a restored cob cottage, fed with water from a well and heated mainly by a wood-fired Rayburn cooker. Trevor also runs Steadfast Software, NetAcclaim, and the Sheer Hopody Barn Dance Band.

Greenline does not have a retail outlet of it's own, but is pleased to refer would-be callers to the farm shop at Higher Punchardon Farm near Winkleigh. Here you can buy some of the products listed as well as a good selection of Farm Produce - all grown without the use of artificial chemicals. You may also collect orders from here, if you wish.

Greenline is not associated in any way with any other business in Winkleigh or Chulmleigh which may, or may not, sell organic products.

If you would like to encourage us in our work to further promote Organic and Fair Trade products, a donation to our Conservation Fund would be very much appreciated.

Thank you.
